Homeless in Santa Barbara

This  is a short version of the original 16mm 75 minute long movie produced  by Barnaby Conrad and edited by Dean Mars. The film is narrated by John  Steinbeck which is a short story from his book titled "The Long  Valley," and is the only appearance by the author to ever be seen on film. 

John arrived in Santa Barbara in  2005 with a 19 ton block of Marble, shipped from Italy, and at Elings  Park in Santa Barbara, Ca. settled down to carve a Sculpture Titled:  "Chip Away at Drug Abuse." During his three months stay, I filmed and  talked to John about his process, tools and methods to carve stone which  should be of interest to stone carvers all over the world. While  Producer for Community Access Television the video was summited to  "Hometown Video Festival," and won The National Award in The Visual Arts  Category.
